This paper deals with stationary wave structures generated by the inductive interaction of a conducting body and a magnetized plasma in relative motion. Alfven and magnetoacoustic (both fast and slow type) modes have been shown to be generated as a result of this interaction. Most work has ignored the magnetoacoustic modes, arguing they were evanescent or of very small amplitude. More recent work has indicated that this is not true, and this paper seeks to introduce a more formal treatment of this problem, which includes potential effects associated with the magnetoacoustic modes, along with the Alfven modes.
