The 19th U.S. Symposium on Rock Mechanics was held at Stateline, Nevada, May 1--3, 1978. It was sponsored by the Mackay School of Mines with cooperation from the U.S. National Committe for Rock Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council. Topics involved hydraulic fracturing, stability of underground cavities (including roof support mechanisms), slope stability of surface excavations, rock mass characteristics (including methods of measuring stresses and strains), explosive fracturing, and methods of predicting earthquakes. Individual papers have been entered individually into EDB and ERA; seven papers had been entered previously from other sources. (LTN)
