Catalytic hydrodesulfurization

Journal Article · · Catal. Rev., Sci. Eng.; (United States)
A review of recent studies of cobalt/molybdenum, nickel/molybdenum, and the corresponding tungsten hydrodesulfurization catalysts covers the phenomena that led to the recognition of the role of the sulfided form of the catalyst in hydrodesulfurization, and research approaches to their study; the preparation of hydrodesulfurization catalysts, including characterization of the oxide precursors and oxides and the activation by hydrogen-reduction and sulfidation of supported and unsupported catalysts; catalytic and physicochemical properties of supported and unsupported sulfided catalysts; and hypotheses of the nature of the active site which suggest that MoS/sub 2/ and Co/sub 9/S/sub 8/ are the active phases.
