Sulfuric acid extraction of uranium from its ores

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6199775
A method is described for extracting uranium values from an ore which contains uranium as a finely-dimeminated refractory material. The ore is wet ground, and the ground ore is dewatered. The dewatered ground ore is then mixed with sulfuric acid so that the initial concentration of sulfuric acid in the moist ore is less than 4N. The moist acidified ore is then cured at a temperature of from 50 to 100/sup 0/C while an oxidizing gas is passed through the moist ore. The acid-soluble uranium values are recovered from the cured ore by dissolution.
