Health and safety hazards in production of ..cap alpha..-Si and CuInSe/sub 2/ photovoltaic cells are identified and characterized for their potential to cause health effects. The most significant potential hazards are associated with toxic and explosive gases, high voltages, and rf radiation. These hazards are not unique to the photovoltaic industry; various control options can be used to reduce or eliminate them. 5 refs., 1 tab.
