This patent describes a method for manufacturing a polycrystalline superconductor having oriented anisotropic properties from an oxygen deficient precursor having a desired stoichiometric composition. It comprises: atomizing the precursor into supercooled droplets and directing the atomized precursor onto a ceramic substrate; solidifying the droplets on the ceramic substrate, such that the droplets flatten out upon impact and oriented crystal growth occurs; removing the structure from the ceramic substrate; and oxidizing the structure to form a polycrystalline superconductor having oriented anisotropic properties.
