One way to increase the after-tax profits and enhance the value of equity interests held by investors in the oil and gas industry is to restructure all or part of the corporation as a royalty trust or public limited partnership. A cost benefit analysis of this approach shows that it is one of the most potent ways to realize capital appreciation of equity interest while minimizing the effects of double taxation. Most companies will find that the combination of the two methods will result in all assets being valued closer to the actual market value and a lessening of the tax effects of liquidation. 119 references, 2 tables.
