Chevron to steam light oil

Journal Article · · Pacific Oil World; ()
OSTI ID:6197754
Chevron USA Inc. is preparing to inject steam to recover light crude from wells in the West Side's (Kern County) Buena Vista field. Steam has been a useful tool in the production of heavy crude since the early 1960s, enjoying its greatest success in Kern County's shallow heavy oil reservoirs. The steam reduces the viscosity of the heavy oil, making it easier to recover through producing wells. With light oil, steam is expected to enhance recovery not only by providing sweep efficiency, but also by partially distilling the oil in place, setting the stage for more complete recovery of light ends. Also, some of the distilled components are expected to have a solvent effect, further improving recovery.
