Intense electron-beam autogenerator

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6196828

A novel autogeneration mechanism was conceived and used to generate and accelerate an intense relativistic electron beam. This was accomplished via the passage of a primary relativistic electron-beam pulse through an uncharged pulse-forming transmission-line cavity. A second beam pulse was generated with the same duration as the primary beam, e.g., 10 to 20 nsec, but delayed by a time interval equal to the double transit time of the induced electromagnetic wave inside the cavity.
