A power uprate feasibility study

Conference · · Trans. Am. Nucl. Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6195769
Nuclear power plant uprating has been considered by several utilities as one of the least expensive options for increasing electrical generating capacity at a time of limited plant construction and increasing energy demand. Several nuclear power plants have been uprated --105% of their original licensed ratings by making use of existing design margins. The cost of these uprates has been <$100/kW (electric) since they have only required accident reanalysis, system performance evaluation, operating license amendment, and minor plant modifications. In some instances, no plant modifications were required.
