Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is a sensitive technique for element analysis which provides subnanogram per milliliter (sub-ppb) detection limits for most elements. However, for ultratrace determinations, lower detection limits are always desired. Furthermore, ICP-MS is subject to spectroscopic and non-spectroscopic interferences originating from the sample matrix. Among the various sample preparation and introduction methods used for overcoming these interferences, anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) coupled on-line ICP-MS has proved to be an effective and relatively simple method.
