High energy ..gamma..-rays from SN 1987A were searched for at the Black Birch Range in New Zealand, using a scintillation counter array and mirrors for Cerenkov light. An upper limit on the ..gamma..-ray flux greater than 100 TeV was about 3.6 x 10/sup -12/ cm/sup -2/bullets/sup -1/ from 13 October to 3 December, 1987. An upper limit on the ..gamma..-ray greater than 3 TeV was 6 x 10/sup -12/ cm/sup -2/bullets/sup -1/ during December 1987 and January 1988. Data obtained on January 14 and 15 have excess counts corresponding to a flux of (1.9 +- 0.5) x 10/sup -11/ cm/sup -2/bullets/sup -1/.
