Recent theoretical work has focused on the investigation of how the modification of fullerenes affects their electronic properties; however, to date there are very little experimental data to support the theoretical predictions. To address this issue, the authors have used charge exchange reactions in an FTMS to experimentally bracket the ionization potentials (IP) and electron affinities (EA) of hydrogenated and fluorinated fullerenes.
