Benefits of mooring load monitoring at single-point moorings
- Hydronautics Ltd.
The benefits of mooring load monitoring at single-point moorings are discussed including existing mooring load monitoring systems (MLMS) at single- and catenary-anchor-leg mooring buoys in the North Sea; operational evidence that accurate knowledge of hawser loads and the ability to determine changes with time increases mooring utilization; a description of a complete MLMS including subsystems and components; possible mooring load prediction systems to determine whether it is appropriate for a ship to moor or when loading should be terminated or the ship should leave the mooring; and the likelihood that the cost of a MLMS will be more than offset by savings due to increased port utilization.
