The stereochemical structure of the stereomeric 2- and 4-methyl-1-(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)cyclohexanes was established by /sup 13/C and /sup 1/H NMR spectroscopy. It was shown that the chair conformation of the ring in trans-2-methyl-1-(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)cyclohexane is distorted. The investigated compounds are mostly conformationally uniform. The effect of the stereochemical structure on the reactivity of the compounds was examined.
