Fiber-reinforced glasses and glass ceramics are fabricated by using sol-gels as suspension solutions in the fabrication of prepregs by the slurry method. Variation of the chemical composition of the sol-gel solution strongly influences the mechanical properties of the composites. The influence of the variation of the matrix and/or sol-gel solution composition on the formation of the interface layers has been investigated by microanalytical methods. Preliminary results are reported for SiC fiber-reinforced borosilicate glasses. 14 refs.
