IGT U--GAS pilot plant: high temperature fluidization

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6189554
The performance of the IGT fluidized-bed, ash-agglomerating, gasifier pilot plant is discussed. Important data are included regarding fluidized-bed temperature, feed size consist, superficial velocity, ash concentration in the fluidized-bed, operation of an internal cyclone, sintering and defluidization, and fines recirculation to the fluidized-bed. The pilot plant reactor, suitable for scale-up, has a 4-foot (1.22 m) inside diameter and a 25-foot (7.62 m) height. This reactor has been operated at near atmospheric pressures and temperatures of 1476 to 2063/sup 0/F (802 to 1128/sup 0/C) during tests using coke breeze, coal chars, and various coals including Montana subbituminous, Illinois No. 6 bituminous, and Western Kentucky No. 9 bituminous coal. Currently, gasification tests are underway to determine the design factors for commercial utilization of the proprietary IGT U-GAS Process.
