These proceedings contain the presentations made during the program of the Thirteenth Annual Institute on Coal Mining, Health, Safety, and Research held at the Donaldson Brown Center for Continuing Education, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Virginia, on August 24, 25 and 26, 1982. The technical program consisted of four sessions dealing with: (1) impact of recent trends on coal mine health, safety and research; (2) personal injuries; (3) mine environment health and safety; and (4) ground control. Eighteen papers have been abstracted and indexed for the Energy Data Base.
