Nucleon-antinucleon annihilation dynamics

Recent progress towards a microscopic understanding of nucleon-antinucleon NN-bar annihilation is reviewed. We consider statistical models, the constraints, imposed by SU(2) or SU(3) flavor symmetry and the spin-flavor-color dependence of effective operators for the creation/destruction of quark-antiquark (QQ-bar) pairs in NN-bar annihilation process. The importance of dynamical selection rules is emphasized as a means of revealing the underlying reaction mechanism.
