The invention discloses a method of separating isotopes of hydrogen. The method consists of subjecting a mixture of methane and isotopes of hydrogen in a methane to hydrogen mole ratio from about 1000:1 to about 1:10 to a glow electrical discharge from about 10/sup -3/ to about 50eV per hydrogen bond at a temperature from about 50/sup 0/K to about 310/sup 0/K and at a pressure from about 0.3 Torr to the pressure at which arcing occurs.
