Enhancement of the upper critical field of two-band superconductors

On the basis of an isotropic effective two-band model for electrons in superconductors, a detailed discussion is presented about the influence of the density of states, Fermi velocities, the strength of phonon-induced interaction and the parameters of intraband and interband impurity scattering on the upper critical field of two-band superconductors. The equations for determining H/sub c/ /sub 2/ and explicit expressions of h*(0)equivalent-H/sub c/ /sub 2/(0)/(T/sub c/ (dH/sub c/ /sub 2//dT)/sub T//sub c/ ) are given in both pure and strong intraband impurity scattering limits. It is found that in two-band superconductors h*(0) is always greater than that predicted by isotropic single band theories and the H/sub c/ /sub 2/ -T curve generally shows a positive curvature near T/sub c/ .
