Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6188322
Established in 1910, the Bureau of Mines of the Department of the Interior is the Federal Government's primary research arm in the minerals field. The role of the Bureau of Mines is to develop, through scientific and engineering investigations, improved technology to increase the recovery of coal, copper, and other mineral products from the country's deposits while decreasing energy usage through more efficient processing; to improve the economics of recycling scrap metals; to achieve more efficient utilization of virgin metals and minerals by extending their normal lifespan; and to find industrial uses for the many wastes of mineral processing that constitute unsightly dumps and contribute to air, water, and land pollution. Research 77 is the seventh in a series of annual Bureau of Mines publications high-lighting significant research projects and mineral data studies.
