In 1977, the level of activity in all 3 CSD Districts covered by this report (Arkansas, North Louisiana, East Texas) continued to show the strength which developed in 1976. Levels of exploratory and development drilling in several areas even showed gains from the very high 1976 figures. Successes in South Arkansas were distributed more evenly among Smackover and younger formations than in the past. Arkoma basin activity centered on field extensions. North Louisiana drilling was concentrated on the Cotton Valley and Hosston. East Texas activity was widely distributed with heavy interest in the Cotton Valley of both the east and west sides of the East Texas basin. 5 figures, 6 tables.
