CW HF chemical laser MOPA performance. [Master Oscillator/Power Amplifier]

Conference · · AIAA J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6186603
It is shown that, when lasers of different sizes are operated with the same cavity losses, their performance scales with size. If lasers differing in size by a factor of two are run at the same saturated gain, the size, weight, and volume can potentially be reduced by a factor of two with only a 25-percent performance penalty. Preliminary amplifier data indicate that the amplification ratio is a function of the match of the input beam to the spatial distribution of the amplifier gain and of the flow channel aperturing of the input beam. It is noted that multiline amplifier performance may be better than single-line amplifier performance. 8 references.
