Rapid and complete removal of C from Fe-C droplets by slags containing iron oxide

Reduction of FeO in slags by Fe-C droplets were investigated for application to Direct Reduction Processes. The reduction reaction virtually ceased when C in the droplets fell below 2%. By placing an inert metallic conductor between the droplet and the surrounding slag the C could be lowered below 0.3%. Reduction rates could also be increased by adding transition metal oxides to the slag.
