Well treating system for stimulating recovery of fluids

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6185147
A system is described for fracturing a subterranean earth formation to stimulate the production of fluids from the formation into a wellbore extending to the formation, perforating and gas generating means for forming apertures for the flow of fluid between the wellbore and the formation and for generating combustion gases to initiate fractures in the formation comprising: elongated generally cylindrical canister means adapted to be disposed in the wellbore; the canister means including a first section including explosive perforating charges for forming the apertures and second sections connected end to end to the first section with each second section including a quantity of combustible propellant material for producing a predetermined quantity of combustion gas and being formed in a first annular ring of relatively fast burn material and a cylindrical core portion within the ring comprising slower burning material. The second sections are disposed in a generally cylindrical outer canister member formed of a material which will disintegrate to a state that precludes plugging the apertures upon ignition and burning of the propellant material. Fuse means are for igniting the fast burn material, coupling means for connecting second sections and the first section to each other prior to insertion of the perforating and gas generating means into the wellbore. There is also a means for suspending the perforating and gas generating means in the wellbore.
