Coking plants are commonly believed to be dangerous to the environment. In this paper it is emphasized that it is possible to minimize the emissions by the use of the best available technology. Good operation of the coking process can be assured by use of good automation system. Some examples of the application of a Coking Process Management System (CPMS) for environmental control are presented in the paper.
