RFQ work at INS

Conference · · AIP Conf. Proc.; (United States)

Research and development of heavy ion RFQ linacs at INS are described. We have constructed two four-vane RFQs, a test machine LITL and a real machine TALL, and a cold model of a split coaxial RFQ. The four-vane RFQs, driven with a single loop coupler at 100 MHz, accelerates ions with charge to mass ratio larger than 1/7. For very heavy ions, such as uranium, and improved structure of a split coaxial RFQ was proposed. This paper summarizes the operation of LITL, design, construction, and preliminary results of low power tests of TALL and the cold model of the split coaxial RFQ.
