Visits were made to the Aircraft Tire facility of B.F. Goodrich Company located in Akron, Ohio for the purpose of determining whether or not N-nitroso compounds were present in the workplace air in selected operations of the rubber industry. The extrusion and curing rooms at the facility were surveyed for N-nitroso compounds. Bulk samples of batchstock before and after extrusion, and air samples were taken. N-Nitrosomorpholine (59892) (NMOR) was detected in concentrations ranging from 1 to 27 micrograms/cubic meter in the air of the extrusion and curing rooms in the facility. It is not certain how the NMOR was formed. For that reason it was difficult for the researchers to suggest ways in which its formation could be eliminated. There was no evidence to suggest that NMOR was produced as an artifact of either the sample trapping technique or subsequent analytical procedures used in the study.
