The authors tested SVD catalyst in the oxidative ammonolysis of picolines. This is vanadium(V) oxide promoted by the addition of potassium sulfate and deposited on diatomite. Experiments showed that in activity, as well as in selectivity with respect to the formation of cyanopyridines, SVD catalyst is practically not inferior to fused vanadium (V) oxide. The SVD catalyst exhibited a still higher selectivity with respect to nitrile in the oxidative ammonolysis of 4-picoline. The SVD catalyst was found to be useful also for the oxidative ammonolysis of mixtures of 2- and 4-picolines.
