A comparative study of coke-coated mono- and bimetallic supported platinum catalysts, based on the intensity of the ESR signal of carbon, has been carried out. It was shown that the specific intensity of the ESR signal of carbon is determined systematically by the nature of the catalyst. The use of In, Sn, or a mixture of Re and S as promoters in alumina-platinum catalysts leads to predominant deposition of coke on the support with formation of condensed aromatic systems, which accounts for the resistance of bimetallic dehydrogenation catalysts to deactivation by coke.
