Hydrogasification PDU studies

For all thermal processes for converting peat to synthetic fuels, the feed moisture content should be about 50 wt % or less. Dry harvesting methods use solar energy to produce peat containing about 50% moisture. Wet harvesting methods produce peat containing 90 to 95% moisture, which must be dewatered to 50 wt % before being used. Several mechanical and thermal dewatering methods are commercially available and some improved methods are being developed. The particular method of peat harvesting and dewatering could affect the gasification characteristics of peat. Four different dewatering methods have been selected for testing. The effects of temperature, pressure, feed peat moisture content, and feed gas partial pressure on the gasification yields are the primary operating variables being investigated. The hydrogasification tests are being conducted in an existing entrained-flow reactor.
