Coated superalloy gas turbine components

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6179259
A gas turbine component is described consisting of a non-symmetrical body made of material selected from the group consisting of nickel-base superalloy, cobalt-base superalloy and iron-base superalloy and an alloy coating metallurgically bonded by an interdiffusion zone and providing the outer surface for the coated body. The composition of the coating consists essentially of (in weight percent) about 43% chromium; about 0.1% yttrium, and oxides; up to 15% silicon; less than the percentage of aluminum which would be required to form a continuous film of aluminum oxide over the outer surface, and the balance essentially cobalt. The concentration of chromium is uniform on a macroscopic scale across the thickness of the coating.
