The author describes how architects have used the resources at hand to provide comfort in the design of buildings in the past. He describes architectural design concepts in office buildings from the 1930's to the present. He recommends that future buildings be designed to optimize the use of natural light and climate. He also recommends the reevaluation of large central HVAC systems in office buildings and discusses the economy of using several small terminal units and less ductwork. (DMC)
