OSTI ID:6176441
Papers presented in the course of this meeting are in the areas of aerospace, engine and drivetrain, fluid film bearings, petroleum and chemicals, seals, solid lubricants, and wear. Attention is given to formulating automatic transmission fluids, the effect of axial vibration on helicopter overrunning clutches, carbon seals in rotary joints, a bidirectional gas thrust bearing, and the dynamic behavior of two-phase mechanical seals. Particular consideration is given to a novel test rig for the development of mechanical seals for use in hard abrasive slurries, the tribological properties of boric acid and boric-acid-forming surfaces, antiseizure and antiwear properties of lubricating oils under refrigerant gas environments, the effect of a soft metallic plated layer on the tribological behavior of steels under boundary lubrication, and the wear and scuff resistance of aluminum 390.
