This paper reports on SARA, the Safety Review Advisor, a PC-based computer program being developed for EPRI. SARA is designed to help engineers perform safety reviews for changes at nuclear stations. SARA captures and computerizes the complex decision-making processes required for such reviews by making use of expert system technologies. SARA and the application of expert system technologies to engineering activities are the focus of this paper.
