Aperture synthesis maps of HDO emission in Orion-KL

In order to improve understanding of the special circumstances which lead to strong HDO emission from the Kleinmann-Low nebula in Orion, the authors made aperture synthesis maps of the 1(10)-1(11) deuterated water transition line with an angular resolution of 3.4 arsec. The HDO/H2 abundance toward both the hot core and compact ridge regions of the nebula is inferred to be about about 10 to the -7th, unexpectedly high for such warm regions. This result suggests that most of the HDO in this region has been evaporated from dust grain mantles within the last 1000-10,000 years. 23 references.
