The whiskers of the Bi{sub 2}Sr{sub 2}Ca{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 10}(2223) phase have been prepared by heating the Bi{sub 2}Sr{sub 2}CaCu{sub 2}O{sub 8}(2212) whiskers inside of a calcined Bi{sub 2}Sr{sub 2}Ca{sub 4}Cu{sub 6}Pb{sub 0.5}O{sub {ital x}} powder. Temperature and magnetic field dependence of the critical current density ({ital J}{sub {ital c}}) have been measured. The whisker yields a maximum {ital J}{sub {ital c}} of 7.3{times}10{sup 4} A/cm{sup 2} at 77 K, and higher than 1{times}10{sup 4} A/cm{sup 2} below 96 K in zero applied field. At 77 K the 2223 whisker shows {ital J}{sub {ital c}} values above 1{times}10{sup 4} A/cm{sup 2} up to 1 T, in contrast to the 2212 whisker (1{times}10{sup 2} A/cm{sup 2}, {ital B}=1 T) which shows the steep decrease of {ital J}{sub {ital c}} in magnetic field above 0.2 T.
