Real-time, Doppler global velocimetry

A new optical Doppler-velocimetry technique for seeded flow fields illuminated by a monochromatic laser light sheet has been developed. In contrast to conventional laser Doppler velocimetry based on scanned, point-by-point measurement, this technique yields global, simultaneous, quantitative visualization of the flow velocities over the illuminated plane. This technique is applied to a free-expansion jet at near sonic velocities in a small wind tunnel. 8 refs.
