Sohio studies extended-reach drilling for Prudhoe Bay

This paper discusses Sohio's recently drilled test well in south Texas. It models extended-reach techniques that have potential applications at Purdhoe Bay. The test well is described in detail in this article. The well took 105 days to drill, 35 days longer than originally estimated. Sohio reports that the well was drilled with existing technology and readily available tools. Prudhoe Bay applications are discussed.
