Installation of safety parameter display system in Japanese BWR plant

The first SPDS for BWR plant in Japan began operation in 1987. It is consisted of computer system, color CRT displays and a high speed optical fiber data way. It receives process data from process computer, and provides plant safety status information through CRT display screens. They are consisted of primary, trend and other screens which are designed both for emergency cases and usual plant supervisory. Japanese utilities are installing SPDS to operating plants as well as constructing plants. In the former case additional system is linked to existing process computer. In the latter case the system is integrated in process computer system. BWR plant in Japan will be equipped with SPDS in a few years.
