Influence of fluoride on leaf scorch in various cultivars of Easter Lily

Journal Article · · HortScience; (United States)
OSTI ID:6167463
Two rates of fluoride (F) were applied weekly (4 or 12 mg F/15 cm pot) in nutrient solutions to Croft, Ace and Nellie White bulbs grown in sand. Bulbs grown without F produced plants without injury. Plants grown with F produced leaf injury (scorch) closely correlated with level of applied F. Injury (scorch) symptoms on plants of Croft were a necrotic semi-circular area at the margin of the leaf near the apex. The semi-circular necrotic areas enlarged and the entire leaf tip became necrotic. Injury on plants of Ace varied from semi-circular necrotic areas to chlorotic and necrotic leaf margins. At a given F level, greater injury occurred in plants of Croft than Ace. Injury on Ace was primarily to lower foliage while on Croft injury was on all leaves. Plants of Nellie White had little injury and symptomology was similar to plants of Ace.
