Air pollution injury of potato plants grown in a growth chamber

Potato plants (Solanum tuberosum Russet Burbank) grown in a growth chamber developed symptoms suggestive of air pollution injury 22 days after planting. Symptoms included a curling downward of mature leaflet edges and the appearance of interveinal yellow enations on the upper surface of the leaflets. When an activated charcoal air purifier was placed in the growth chamber, the disease symptoms did not develop. The results showed that potato plants grown in a growth chamber without filtered air are subject to air pollution damage. 13 references.
