Oil and gas developments in Europe in 1983
Most oil and gas activities in Europe declined slightly in 1983. Less acreage was held under license, and seismic efforts and exploratory drilling fell below the 1982 level. Development drilling was up from 1982 as a result of increased North Sea field delineations. North Sea discoveries dominated European exploration, although significant finds were drilled in the Irish Celtic Sea, Paris basin, Yugoslavia's Pannonian basin, and central Italy. An increase in production for 1983 reflected successful exploration efforts of previous years, as well as increased output from fields such as Casablanca in Spain, and implementation of secondary and tertiary recovery projects. Licensing rounds held in 1983 and those scheduled for 1984 promise an upward trend for exploration and an increase in proved reserves in the near future. 20 figures, 8 tables.
