The formation of the known compound Cu{sup +}Cu{sup 2+}Mg{sub 3}(PO{sub 4}){sub 3} by alternate reactions and its thermal stability were studied. The formation of solid solutions of the types Mg{sub 2{minus}x}Cu{sub x}P{sub 2}O{sub 7} and Mg{sub 3{minus}x}Cu{sub x}(PO{sub 4}){sub 2} was reexamined, mainly to aid in the identification of the products of decomposition of Cu{sup +}Cu{sup 2+}Mg{sub 3}(PO{sub 4}){sub 3}. X-ray diffractometry patterns of Mg{sub 2{minus}x}Cu{sub x}P{sub 2}O{sub 7} varied gradually in the range 0 {le} x {le} 2, which indicates complete miscibility.
