Much has been written about limiting suction specific speed for conventional centrifugal pumps to about 12,000. It is less well known, however, that pumps with inducers routinely achieve suction specific speeds in excess of 20,000 and have been doing so for many years. Although the inducer originated nearly 50 years ago, it was only in the last 15 years that the commercialization of high-speed pumps demanded the development of a long life inducer for use in industry.
