A new bound on the product of the galactic flux of monopoles and the cross section for monopole catalyzed nucleon decay, (F/sub M//cm/sup -2/sr/sup -1/) (sigma/sub ..delta..B//10/sup -27/cm/sup 2/) less than or equal to 10/sup -22/, and its implications for the detection of monopoles are discussed.
