This well packer is especially adapted for used with high-temperature fluids, and finds primary application in production operations that require injection of hot gas, steam, or hot water. It employs a slidable connection means between the packer and the operating pipe string to accomodate longitudinal expansion and contraction of the pipe string due to substantial changes in temperature of the conducted fluids. The slidable connection means includes a tubular mandrel slidably extending into the bore of the packer body and connected at its outer end to the operating pipe string and carrying on its inner end 2 longitudinally spaced clutch elements. One clutch element is operable at one axial position of the mandrel to set and release the packer in response to rotation of the operating string. The other is operable at a second axial position of the mandrel to effect release of the operating pipe from the packer in response to rotation of the operating string without unsetting the packer.
