This patent describes a process of producing a linear alternating polymer of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon in the presence of a catalyst composition formed from a palladium compound, the anion of a non-hydrohalogenic acid having a pKa below about 4 and a bidentate ligand incorporating two atoms of Group VA elements. The improvement comprises employing a ligand wherein one of the Group VA atoms is phosphorus and the other Group VA atom is arsenic.
