Sun to fire thin, South Texas pay

Sun Oil Co. will use new thermal ideas in a stubborn South Texas field to put a pilot fireflood on a commercial footing almost immediately. This rarely is economic due to high fireflood cost, but Sun uses existing wells to hold down drilling costs and has pioneered in low-cost thermals. Oil recovery at Glen Hummel Field will be improved by some 3.9 million bbl over primary should the experiment work out. The project will be kicked off at a cost of $32,000 as soon as the Texas Railroad Commission approves it. Sun figures the 640-acre field will show a response within 90 days.
